How To Protect Your Skin Against Pollution

Pollution seems much worse in the summer heat, doesn’t it? Your skin would agree too.

Dark spots, dryness, dullness, dehydration and patchy skin are just a few results of pollution. This contamination feels almost inescapable if you live in a city. To save your urban skin from such havoc, it becomes essential to protect it and ayurveda has just the right remedies for you. Here are some:

Wash your face with neem water

Among the many medicinal benefits of neem, deep cleaning your skin is one of the most important ones for the season. Washing your face regularly with neem water will eliminate dryness and dullness and bring out your clear and radiant skin. Boil 10-20 neem leaves in one litre of water and let it boil till leaves have shed their colour and water has turned green. Let the water cool, and then strain and store it in a bottle. For best results, wash your face twice a day till your skin is clear of all the marks and acne.

  • Moisturise with aloe vera gel

When it comes to your skin, you can rest assured that the wonder plant will not let you down. Aloe vera gel adds a protective layer to the skin while the moisture in it hydrates and softens your dry skin. Replete with vitamins and minerals, it purifies and enriches the skin as well. As if that wasn’t enough, it is also an excellent remedy for tanned skin. Aloe vera is known to be an air purifying plant, and you can improve the air quality by keeping the plant in your home or workplace.

  • Drink tulsi juice

Tulsi, also known as 'elixir of life ‘, is hugely beneficial for the skin. It can be applied to the skin or consumed orally. Drinking tulsi juice every day will aid you in steering away from the effects of pollutants and clear your respiratory tract. You can also make a tulsi face pack by combining it with milk or lime juice for clear and smooth skin.

  • Steam with Ayurvedic herbs

Steaming your face with water and a few drops of eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil will open your pores and will soften blackheads and dirt, making it easy to remove it. This steam also hydrates and deeply cleanses your skin. Add steaming to your skin care routine to shield it from the harmful effects of pollution.

  • Apply neem tulsi face pack

The combination of neem and tulsi goes a long way in giving you spotless and smooth skin. To make this face pack, grind dried neem, and tulsi leaves together and add water or curd to it. Apply it on your face for 20 minutes and then rinse it with normal water. Do this twice a week for better results.

So, there you go. These are some natural home remedies that will protect your skin from the summer pollution and reverse its effects. You can't control the climate, but you can control your skin care routine!
