Hair Masks You Can Make With Ingredients Available In Your Kitchen

Who doesn’t desire to have healthy, silky, strong and luscious hair? But factors such as pollution, stress and unhealthy food habits leave us with damaged and brittle hair. Dandruff, dryness, hair fall and hair breakage are some of the issues we continue to face despite using the 'best' shampoos, conditioners and hair serums. While these chemical-laden hair products wash out the dirt in our hair, they don’t nourish it.

The secret to improving the quality of your hair is to nourish it from its roots. You can prepare effective hair masks with ingredients available in your kitchen. Hair masks soften, hydrate, fight infection and prompt hair growth, and is a list of homemade hair mask recipes that you must add to your hair care regime.

Banana & honey

Banana is a rich source of potassium, vitamins and antioxidants that revitalise damaged hair and improve hair growth. And honey helps in retaining moisture in the hair, thereby treating dryness.

To prepare a banana and honey hair mask, blend an overripe banana and add a tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture throughout the length of your hair, concentrating on the roots. Leave in for 20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. You can also refrigerate this mixture for future use. This hair mask will work well in softening the hair and bringing back its lost sheen.

Almond & oatmeal hair mask

This mask is recommended for people suffering from dandruff, oily scalp, inflammation and an irritated scalp. Oatmeal absorbs the excessive oil in the scalp and strengthens the hair follicles by treating dandruff. Almond oil nourishes the scalp and prevents hair fall by making the roots stronger.

Mix one tablespoon of oatmeal with one tablespoon of fresh milk and almond oil each. Comb your hair and remove all the tangles before applying the paste. Let the mask remain for 20 minutes before rinsing it.

Coconut oil & curry leaves

The fatty acids present in coconut oil penetrate the scalp and hydrate it, while the proteins and beta-carotene in curry effectively combat hair fall.

Prepare the hair mask by heating 12-15 fresh curry leaves in coconut oil till it pops. Wait for the oil temperature to come down and apply it on your scalp and hair. Leave in for about 20 minutes and rinse with shampoo. This hair mask is known to reduce frizziness and moisturise the hair.

Hibiscus hair mask

This hair mask is ideal for people with weak roots and porous hair. Hibiscus stimulates blood circulation to the scalp and nourishes the hair follicles.

Prepare this mask by soaking five to seven hibiscus petals in water overnight. Blend it with olive oil and raw milk. Apply the mask on your hair, keep it on for 20 minutes and wash with cold water.

Avocado hair mask

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, avocado boosts hair growth and improves its texture and shine. Its anti-inflammatory properties nourish the scalp.

Make the mask by mashing one ripe avocado and adding two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the mask and leave in for 30 minutes before rinsing it off. This hair mask prevents split ends and reduces hair breakage.

Based on the ingredients available in your kitchen, prepare a natural hair mask and bid adieu to all your hair problems.
